  12. I have the following persistent problem on several Linux
  13. servers:

  15. users dial in with 14k4 modems to the servers which have
  16. 28k8 modems. dialling in works great, but...
  17.  
  18. after dialing in, the server dials back. This time, the
  19. same two modems obviously cannot agree on how to setup
  20. the communication. By the sound of it, I'd say they
  21. are trying several baud rates, until a timeout occurs.
  22. Then a disconnect follows.

  24. I've checked the modem manuals, and I'm pretty sure
  25. the modem is not locked at 28k8 speed. Also, I'd rather
  26. not lock the speed at 14k4 in other not to frustrate
  27. the users owning a 28k8 modem.

  29. I've tried this with several types of 28k8 modems,
  30. but all of them have problems connecting to some 14k4
  31. modems.
